What has shaped me

Therapy is about you and choosing a therapist is a very personal choice.

So here’s a little about me, to give you a brief sense of who I am.

I lost my father to suicide when I was twenty-five.  As well as my first real experience of grief, it was something that led me to consider things I'd never previously thought about. Like, how and why people carry and conceal mental pain, what leads people to lose a sense of identity, the role that communication plays and how (at the time) talking about emotions just wasn't the done thing.  And alongside all of this was getting used to living with lingering questions that would have no answers.

If we all have a 'hidden therapist' within us, this was perhaps the moment where mine woke up.

Life progressed, and I'm now a husband and father of three. I've seen up close the uncertainties, challenges and pressures that teenagers and young adults face as they navigate their way through their lives. And I've discovered a lot about myself through being a parent.

Spending over 20 years working in the corporate world has given me insight into the pressures, motivations and relational dynamics within businesses. I've experienced how your personal and professional lives blend and sometimes conflict with each other.  I've contemplated questions around our purpose, what gives us identity, what we value.

I came to psychotherapy later in life.  I'd always been someone others turned to, and enjoyed the experience of connecting with people in a more profound and meaningful way.

Being a therapist allows me to do that, and I've seen the transformational effect therapy can have on people when they need support the most.  How hopelessness can turn into optimism. Isolation into connection. Confusion into clarity and understanding. Not through anything dramatic - just through being genuinely heard and through having the time and space to work through what matters for you right now.

I look forward to helping you on your journey.

I was sceptical about talking therapy, but my time with Andy has been incredibly valuable and truly impactful.  Through our conversations, he helped me explore parts of my life and patterns of thinking that I hadn’t realised were affecting me as much as they were. His gentle but thoughtful exploration opened up insights I wouldn’t have reached on my own.
