My approach
For some people, going to therapy can feel daunting or uncertain. Being vulnerable, or talking about private, sensitive things that matter to you can seem like a scary prospect. My goal is to help you relax, feel at ease and able to focus on the things you want to talk about, rather than worry that you're somehow 'doing therapy wrong'.
We'll begin by chatting about what you're hoping from therapy and how you'd like to work. This shapes what we focus on, how we approach it, and how we know it's helping.
Everyone is unique. What's right for you as an individual may be different for someone else. As an integrative therapist, I draw on a range of approaches rather than working from a single fixed model. These include:
Person-Centred Therapy
This approach is built on the belief that everyone has the capacity to grow and find their own way forward. It relies on having a space where you can speak freely and feel heard, without being directed or told what to do. Sometimes, just the right question at the right moment can gently shift your perspective.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
This is a more practical and structured approach that looks at the relationship between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. We work to identify the patterns that keep you stuck and develop concrete strategies to shift them. By focusing on these manageable changes, we can build a toolkit of skills you can use in your everyday life.
Psychodynamic Therapy
Sometimes what we struggle with today has roots in earlier experiences. Patterns or behaviours we developed in our lives to help us cope may no longer serve us. Exploring these connections allows you to gain a deeper understanding of your behaviours and emotions, enabling you to make an active decision as to whether you choose to keep those patterns or let them go.
Hypnotherapy
How we feel and think stems from deep in the subconscious - emotional processes that run without our conscious awareness. Achieving a focused state of relaxation can quieten everyday noise and help you access a calmer state of mind. It is a powerful tool for addressing anxiety and stress, as well as reprogramming long-held beliefs or habits that no longer serve you.
